Are you sure it's the battery? Does the computer work with the battery out? You could have a weak charger or there there could be a bad cell in the battery pack. If you have a bad cell, you will need to replace the battery and if the charger is weak replace it.

Contact your computer maker to get a new battery and/or charger.

On many laptops there is usually a key when used with the function key for brightness and contrast. It may be as simple as resetting these keys. You can also try holding down the insert ket when you turn on the power. This will slow down the video and sometimes allows you to be able to see well enough to make changes in the software. Sorry I cannot be of more help

Well, you can definitely expect new things come 2011, but if you have the money and need a laptop you should just buy one now. Apple is constantly developing new things and making changes to their products and one year makes a whole lot of difference. You would never be able to buy anything if you were constantly thinking about possible new products. Plus, there's an offer for a free ipod touch and 100 dollars off the price of the laptop for college students.

Is there one planned on the books right now? Nobody but Apple insiders know that. And they aren't telling anyone. They keep very hush hush on those topics.

But in reality, yes there will be. By late this year Intel should finally deliver the Mobile Core i7 processor line. That line will quickly be put into Apple laptops. So possibly by end of this year, but more likely by start of next year there should be a significant upgrade to the line as it moves to the i7 processors. Apple is waiting on Intel for this though, so no confirmed dates.

Also, its very un-Apple like to have a single option in any given category. With only 1 laptop option called a "MacBook" now (the rest are either MacBook Pro or MacBook Air), it seems a real possibility that some kind of change will happen to either eliminate the line entirely or add something else too it.

So who knows what exactly there will be, but there will definitely be a new laptop from Apple by 2011. Likely there will have been a couple of upgrades during that time. The initial switch to the i7 though will be the most significant likely (at least in performance impact).

I think an apple netbook is coming out but if you want to get a macbook now there is a sale where if you get it for college you get a free ipod-touch and 100 off a regular priced macbook. They may have better sales in the future but this one sound pretty good.

Indeed you can!

All you will need is a secondary monitor, a monitor cable and it's power cable.
Pretty much every current laptop will have a secondary monitor output (socket), all you will need to do is match the monitor cable to the monitor output on your laptop, plug the monitor into a powerpoint, and it should work just fine.

You may need to tweak and fine tune the settings for your new monitor, which can be done as per usual like the laptop monitor (eg. resolution, main monitor option etc).

And yes, your laptop monitor will still be on. If either one of your monitors appear "blank" or "black", hover your mouse between both monitors, if it is still visible, then it just means the blank monitor is just lacking a wallpaper.
