What should i look for in the features of a computer that will make it a good laptop i.e. amount of RAM, Hard Drive, graphic cards, processors, etc. My friend has told me that Dell studio laptops are good. If you can please make a list of the best features and name some laptops that have that. BTW I have been saving up and i am willing to spend max $ 1,500 on a laptop.

overall a good laptop for a student (something that will fit into my bag, so prefer something small and slim)

ps. I don’t want a netbook/notebook…just a laptop

Question by N.C.: Where can I get a laptop monitor replacement?
I have a Sony Vaio laptop monitor that I had recently accidentally scratched on the outside, not the screen itself. It has now become an eye sore to look at. Does Sony make replacement laptop monitors? If so, how much does it cost? Are there any other company that makes bright colored monitor replacements for a general variety of laptop computers, like the Apple ones?
Laptop skin sounds like a good idea. Where can I get laptop skins or any information about them online?

I think I read somewhere that they don’t replace the LCD barrier screen. I think you might have to contact SONY to get a part number for that component and either order it directly from SONY or from another vendor.

Cost of new displays vary:
$ 200-500
Cost of new LCD barrier is unknown and I’ve never known anyone to order a new one, but that doesn’t mean that it isn’t possible.

UPDATE:
Skins will not get your laptop barrier screen fixed, but here is a site that I will order a skin from when I get around to doing so. They allow you to create your own skin from scratch or photo and cost starting at $ 19 + S&H.

Question by : help with netbooks vs. laptops?
I am interested in buying a laptop/netbook, but im not sure which one will fit my needs better.

-I will be using it for mostly homework/writing papers/& facebook (possibly some other websites)

This is what i have heard about netbooks-
-they aren’t as fast as laptops
-they don’t have a cd drive
-the mouse pad is harder to use
-you can’t change the background on the desktop

-can somebody let me know if those are really true or if any of them can effect me using a netbook?

also if anybody who actually has a netbook please let me know anything you don’t like about it or what you do like about it.

all but the last statement are true. the keyboards suck, so if you wanna write papers, you would almost need an external keyboard or a laptop

You will not find a full featured lap top for under $ 250.00 new. sorry !

Public Schools are giving each of their students an Inspiron mini for the school year for use on their school work. They are hoping that using the technology of the computers will make it to where in a few short years they can stop handing out textbooks. They have enough blocks up to keep the students off of Facebook and Myspace. Do you think it is a good idea? What problems do you think the laptops will cause?

Yes it is actually a great idea beacuse students can learn faster and it is a great way to help mother nature and save trees…
